Oud is a plucked stringed instrument. Oud is pear-shaped, has got bridge and neck, although it doesn't have frets. Most modern ouds has got 5 courses. It was commonly used in Greece, Arabia, North Africa, etc. It's construction is similar to lute construction, as it is a predecessor of lute.

In Arabic countries it's as popular as piano or guitar in Europe.
